Adler Planetarium

In 1930 America’s first planetarium was born, an immersive study of astronomy and astrophysics masterfully put together in an art deco style building. Here at Adler you can do anything from seeing immersive sky shows in the 3 full-sized theaters (the most technologically advanced being Grainger Sky Theater) to taking part in the daily programs, exhibits, and special lectures. You can even use the large telescope at any time during your visit to explore the sky yourself! Take a guided tour of popular exhibitions such as Mission Moon, Astronomy in Culture, and the Clark Family Welcome Gallery. Local students can even take park in after school ‘hangouts’ astro overnights, or Adler after dark programs.

The theaters show spectacular shows such as Cosmic Wonder, Destination Solar System, Skywatch Live, and the most popular Undiscovered Worlds, a show that discusses the search for new planets and life beyond earth. Younger children will especially enjoy the Big Bird Adventure show. Other tour opportunities for field trips, tour groups, scout groups, and adults and seniors are available as well. Before you go head over to Cafe Galileo's for some soup or sandwiches, or the Adler store for some perfect space gifts. Your group is really going to enjoy this world- renowned collection of space artifacts and immersive sky shows, featuring something fun for everyone, and being a true must-see in Chicago for all ages.
